Filming begins on Paweł Pawlikowski’s 1949 starring Sandra Hüller

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, production has begun on 1949, directed by Polish filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski and starring Sandra Hüller. The new film from the director of Cold War will shoot across Poland, Germany, and Italy.

In addition to the Zone of Interest actress, the cast includes German actor August Diehl (A Hidden Life), British actress Anna Madeley (Patrick Melrose), German actor David Striesow (All Quiet on the Western Front), German actor Théo Trebs (The White Ribbon), and Hans Zischler (Munich).

Set at the height of the Cold War, the story follows a road trip by writer Thomas Mann (played by Hans Zischler) and his journalist-actress daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller) as they travel in a black Buick through the ruins of Germany, from Frankfurt to Weimar, across territories controlled by the United States and the Soviet Union.

The creative team includes cinematographer Łukasz Żal, costume designer Aleksandra Staszko, editor Piotr Wójcik, production designers Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński, and composer Marcin Masecki.
